Raising the Bar

Starting in 2011, a multi-disciplinary team of Civil Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Physicists, Prototypers and numerous students at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has worked on developing non-destructive methods and devices for evaluating concrete block strength. This work has lead to the creation of Strike-it™ Technology: a fast, economical and accurate means of estimating the compressive strength of masonry elements based on an acoustic impulse response. SoundQA Solutions Inc was founded in 2018 to commercialize products related to the Strike-it™ Technology. We are actively pursuing opportunities to supplement and augment existing concrete quality assurance processes in areas where such processes are well established. We are also actively pursuing opportunities to introduce Strike-it™ products in regions where concrete quality assurance is lacking, as no other method provides a comparable combination of accuracy, efficiency, economy, and simplicity.

Neil Cox, PhD, P.Eng
Neil Cox, PhD, P.EngCEO
Neil has worked in industry for two decades in communications, signal processing and business. After, he began work at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and championed the introduction of a new electrical engineering degree program. While at BCIT, he collaborated with several faculty members and numerous students on R&D to develop non-destructive testing methods for concrete masonry, leading to the founding of SoundQA.
Spencer Cox, BSc
Spencer Cox, BScCo-Founder
Spencer holds a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics, and is constantly focused on taking the methodical, first-principles approach to problems. He takes the skills learned from working on enterprise software and applies it to SoundQA’s software solutions. Add to that an unquenchable thirst for optimizing anything and everything in life, and you’re well on your way to understanding Spencer.
Nicholas Huttemann, B.Eng
Nicholas Huttemann, B.EngProduct Engineer
Nicholas graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. With a strong background in programming, signal processing, and machine learning, Nicholas was an amazing fit for the team. He works on developing the Strike-It product, managing deployment, and calibrating SoundQA’s products to specific industry needs.
